after some few cold days in Livigno I drove straight to St. Moritz in Switzerland. The weather was not much better there, first they had to postpone the comp. with one day, then we had to wait some few hours in the restaurant because it was too strong wind to run the gondola. At noon we finally got time for a fast facecheck and then the comp. went fast. It was a short face and all riders were down in less than 3 hours, fastest competition runs ever.
The Alpetta face, qualification
I was pretty satisfied with my qualification run but it is a judging sport, sometimes you think you do well and then the result is not as expected but this time I made it to the finals.
From the outside our accommodation looked like this but from the inside it was looking like this...
The cheapest option in the St. Moritz region, dormitory at Maloja palace. 6 freeriders with all the gear in one room.
Petra is beeing rapelled down
I love bigmountain faces and that we got to ride in the finals. The famous face Corvatsch was waiting for us. To get to the start we had to be rapelled down by mountain guides and then we did a traverse on a ridge to get to the starting point. The snow was really compact, I have never been riding a face like that is so compact and even snow. It has been a small dream to ride Corvatsh and to finish the day with a win was great!
Petra Schwarz, me and Anna Orlova
Hey again, it´s a while ago since I was writing. In the last two weeks I did two competitions and I also had some amazing days in the powder. Days like today I start thinking about why I compete, it´s a lot of waiting and the snow is usually not the best. Today we went up with the gondola at 7 a.m. The first start was at 11 p.m. but due to some accidents we had to wait a long time at the start. It was minus 18 C in the morning and windy so it was hard to keep the concentration during the facecheck. We could not see the face from the bottom and I think many people would have made a different line choice if it had been possible to see the face from down. I did misscalculate a part of my run, I thought it will be possible to get out from a couloir on the side but I didnt manage that and I just kept on riding the couloir when I realised that I need to change my plans. I got a fluent run but it was not as good as it could have been. Anyway I was not the only one making mistakes today and I got a third place.
This trip will tomorrow continue from Livigno in Italy to St. Moritz in Switzerland for one more competition. I´m happy that I have got to know so many nice people with the same passion, that´s one of the biggest reasons why I continue competing. To compete is also a way to challenge myself and progress as a rider.
Competition face in Livigno, it was a short face because the start was from the flat part in the middle
