The impact from green/sustainable/recycled materials in equipment and clothing is pretty minimal compared to that of the use-phase. CO2eq output from travel to and from place of utilization can easily reach 150-200x the output of manufacturing. Not saying that bio-substitution and sustainable manufacturing methods and power sources do not matter, simply that they have a lot less impact than changes to means of transportation.

Points for effort from the OEMs; some of them are genuinely trying to make a difference (I work with a few on biomaterials), but there is a risk here that we get stuck in a sort of involuntary green-wash. Buying the "right" stuff may make us feel good about ourselves but is approaching pointless unless we stop flying and/or maximize utilization of electric cars and trains. Next up would be to demand OEMs to produce in countries with an energy mix of predominantly renewable sources.

Full transparency here, I work for Extrem Skis and Åre Skidfabrik where 1000 Skis are produced (as well as SGN, Stereo Skis and Moonlight Skis). The production and most materials used are exactly the same between the brands. So what makes 1000 stand out as a sustainable brand? Just curious.

I would not speak of a sustainable brand, since 100x100 sustainable in our sport unfortunately I doubt there is any brand or product (maybe some wax it is) , but its true that there are some brands or ways of going skiing/purchasing the material that are more sustainable than others, 1000 is not really sustainable, even if they are manufactured as you have said and with renewable energies, but they are working on it, They want a ski with a large LCV or live cycle, making the skis red always and never changig their graphics, So the skier does not need to change the ski for one with new patterns that all brands always change it and they sell it that it is a completely different ski technologically... etc (we have to see how it works 1000 yet but this is the idea) perhaps it should be specified in each brand what is special about it, for me a good example is WNDR ALPINE, although they are not 100 x 100 sustainable but they have a good circularity of their product, as well as the use of natural fibers and waxes, using biomaterials in the ski construction, and collaborate only with brands of the same type.

But at least we have a tracability of ski brands that work in a way to reach more sustainability in our sport ¿?
