Indonesian internet is really slow
so this long and informative post will show my immense dedication to updating you all with boring surf shots. just a couple more months until winter, so hold out, ok? just got back to bali last night after a 10 day trip to the neighbouring island lombok, just a 5 hour public ferry nightmare to the east. we took a few days off on the gili islands, three secluded little paradise islands or whatever, with some good snorkling and, well, not much else. it was however, the first time i snorkled over a coral reef so it was a great experience. here’s some of the sights we saw, obviously a lot more impressive in real life;
scenic drive over a mountain pass in west lombok
Sofia snorkling at gili trawangan, lombok. i got inspired by this shot on OCs blog.

various fish.
view over kuta, lombok. a qiuet fishing village and the complete opposite of kuta, bali, this place was out home for 7 days while searching for uncrowded waves.
…and this is what we got:
‘inside grupuk’ on a small day. 45 people in the water and the biggest shitshow you’ll ever see. there’s 4 people dropping on this wave, all of them sitting too deep to make it, with me dropping in on all of them. fun times.
the following day, after the swell bumped up a couple feet, and for some reason its nearly empty. finally some good surf!
this is the day after that day, when the swell was even bigger, at a spot called Mawi, 30 minutes west of kuta. I thought i’d just paddle out to watch, but you know how it goes…

after shitting my pants i paddled back in and didnt surf anymore that day.
thats it for now, three more weeks to go. see you when i see you, check back soon.
and mom, dad, im alive and well. (telephone calls are expensive here!)

it’s awesome to see one of my favorite skiers hit all the same spots I was at May last year. Loved Mawi! Did you stay at the Surfers Inn in Kuta Lombok? I can second the fact that the ferry is a nightmare, we took a plane over there thankfully (only $30 each CDN from bali) but foolishly took the ferry back. Keep the updates rollin
Enjoy
that a boy, jealous you are getting good surf out there, keep charging
those pics make me longing some more to be overthere again. now it is just counting the days for me.
it is good to read that the ferry to lommbok is a nightmare. so i think i’ll go for the plane
keep hittin’ those waves.
peace out,

Freshe surfebilder forresten!
Svampar svampar! Gili trawangan rocks, haha;)
