Knowing how shitty the weather has been during JOSS, this footage was deeply impressive. Big ups!
One of the sweetest edit’s I’ve seen
aren’t the videos supposed to appear on the JOSS site?!
I can see that simon was little bummed.. since he´s had the best joss-video every year, and never won.
…but no heli or parachute shots at all unfortunately, nice slow motion heli shots is what I live for, conveys that feeling where it feels like you’re in the air spinning yourself! What we saw here was high class newschool action from start to finish but it all happened in a pace that i.m.o was too quick.. Felt like they tried to squeeze in too many clips in too little time. That on the other hand is fully understandable, obviously u wanna showcase what you’ve got. So.. why not have 10 minutes allocated instead of 5 in the future? Especially when there’s a three (top notch) rider-format like this. Missed those elements and also a touch where expectations are being built up in the intro.. like when Jon walked slowly towards his Lambo to tunes of Rolling Stones-gimme shelter back in 2008.. Goose bumps signed Johnny DeCesare… These elements could’ve easily been the difference between top of the podium or a place back in line.
couldn’t agree more!
yo jacob..the one u posted is all laggy…u should post this one…better quality: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o0y-bsV1GyQ&feature=channel
Awesome!!!! It’s simply amazing! Not the most hard trick but the wow factor is here!
The song is: Lazee – Top Notch
Shouldn’t you wait to post this until its out on the JOSS site?
oyvind – its out on youtube. its not like i make the “damage” any worse, is it?
i dont think jon will be verry happy whith you now wester.. stick with jon’s rules
who cares whether jon is pissed off. i loved to see the edit so soon. hate waiting.
Jon won’t be pissed, because it wasn’t jacob who uploaded that vid but Simon Dumont did it himself on empireattire.com
well, i’m guessing you have a descent amount of followers on your blog, so if the majority watch the film here instead of the joss site, it might cause the sponsor money to drop next year(guessing their sponsoring among other things is dependent upon number of hits on the joss site ). I’m not saying that your site alone will do this, but if every athlete with a blog posted the video it might make the “damage” any worse in my opinion:)
lol… everyone at newschoolers, freeride, freeskier… have already seen it. i agree with jacob. its not like he makes the “damage” any worse
reely god video! Nice
chill guys…if it’s really about numbers of viewers for team america video on jons site, make a thread on NS…that it needs some more viewers….then sponsors are more than happy^^
jacob, you don’t make the damage any worse. if something is on youtube everyone will see it.. altough, respect to Jon maybe you shouldn’t have posted it..
anyways, ths point is that Team America has no respect to Jon, his team and all they have done to make this happen. Typical USA behavior. do what they want, when they want & how they want, not caring about others..
m-jay, you hate waiting? maybe read Jon’s blog and think about for what reasons people need to wait.. no waiting.. maybe no JOSS next year?! think people!
jacob! you are missing the point here..
just admit it jacob, you screwed up this time!
you just jumped on team ‘americas side’, without thinking of the consequences, because you feel bitter about getting last & people commenting on you whining a bit?! no good!
I can see Jon’s point about wanting to control the release date of the videos. But he can’t have his cake and eat it too. If you want to host a competition that largely unfolds online, for those of us who can’t be there to watch, you’re going to have videos and other shit leaked. Fact of digital life. Musicians deal with it, movie makers deal with it. Everyone should stop complaining.
pfff, come on. it’s a youtube video. it has over 5000 plays already, my blog doesnt even get that in a week. and yes, im on americas side, since i think this will fire the hype for the other videos even more, so jon will be stoked in the long run.
MediumHappiness, if you make a movie/song with a friend and then he leaks it for some reason, your reaction would be: “fine, that’s just a fact of digital life”? I agree, it’s not the end of the world but you would be disappointed in your friend and that’s what’s being expressed now.
stop caring about who is stoked for a minute.. follow the rules or go home! it’s that simple..
jacob, what you are saying here is right, but it’s the principle that counts : ) it’s like you don’t comment on that. Jon asked the competitors for something, it’s his competition.
after your shooting in Washington, post some stuff on here, so we don’t need to wait & it will fire the hype for the movie that comes out in the fall.. see what msp says about it
it’s not that big of a deal after all.. let’s just watch the videos.
I think this is actually a really cool discussion, regardless of who’s right or wrong, because copyright infringment/violation/IP isn’t something you read about everyday when it comes to ski media. As the sport continues to grow, it will surely become more of an issue, though. This situation is perfectly analagous to an artist on a record label. I’m guessing Jon made you guys sign an agreement when you came to JOSS that basically said by competing you were giving control of your intellectual property to JOSS. This means that by releasing your creative material under you own terms you’re violating your contract. In the music biz you’d be blackballed and never get another record deal, unless you’re Kanye West or MGMT, or some other hugely popular act. And Simon Dumont is certainly on their level in free skiing. Ans so, even though what he did is highly unprofessional and petulant, the guy can pretty much do what he wants. And he does get screwed by jusdges on the regular so on one level I think we can all sympathize with what he did.
Who do the edits and shots belong to? The skiers, filmers or JOSS? I imagine there is a contract. If it is JOSS (e.g. JOSS sponsors front the costs for production for the 2 weeks) then leaking the video is basically like posting your MSP segment on your blog before MSP releases the film commercially.
Even though the edits are going to be posted for free online, posting on youtube ahead of time reduces web traffic/metrics which sponsors care about.
Huge mistake by Dumont and his half-ass apology is even worse. Why is this idiot still on Red Bull’s team. At least Salomon isn’t making a pro model for him anymore, hopefully Oakley stops as well.
Sorry Jacob but I dont agree with you. I have enjoyed following you on your blog, but lowballing Jon like this (and not agreing that this is just a little bit shitty is stupid). Nice to see that you are a humble person that dont depend on your fans, but wait, what will you depend on if not your fans? Your skiing?
Not impressed with this post Jacob. Have some respect. You wonder why you were tossed off Team Sweden.
Aw, i thought this was an extremely very good post. In concept I would like to invest writing in this way moreover – taking time and actual effort to manufacture a really great article… but exactly what do I say… I procrastinate alot and no means apparently go completed.
