pikes

The northern pike is one of my all time favorite species of fish. It’s just something special about their cat-like appearance, and their extremely aggressive attacks that make them such fun fish to catch. They are the biggest predatory fresh water fish in Sweden and can reach weights of over 20 kilos (45 lbs). A big pike usually goes for prey 1/10th of its own weight, and attacks on big birds and even dogs (!) has been reported.

Today it was really warm in the water (17°C), and it seems like they are loving it. A lot of powerful surface bites where you could see the fish approach the lure before attacking, intense!

I was on the lake for a total of 4 hours and caught 10 pikes, ranging from about a kilo to around 4 kilos (9 lbs). Fun times!

right after the attack

number 3, or 4? lost count.

an ambitious one

I felt bad for this one, probably the skinniest pike I’ve ever seen! in Sweden we call this a “slips“.

another pic of the “slips”. at 93 cm it only weighed 3,2 kilos (7 lbs).

this is how I like them – fat and angry!

That was probably my last day of fishing before heading to Indonesia, going to pick up my visa tomorrow and then finish up packing! Can’t wait for monday!
