Hintertux – London
Good morning everyone, and it’s a good morning because now it’s winter time in Europe so I got to sleep a whole hour longer. Much needed since I got a few too many drinks last night at the late Monster dinner…:)
Anyways, me and Oscar just made it into London about 5 minutes after practice had started so we literally got out of our airport taxi, got changed, and then started hitting the jump immeditately. Fun session though, the set up was good, the jump is a bit on the smaller side so the most technical tricks will have to be left out. I was trying some dub cork 1260s, but there just wasnt enough airtime to get a solid grab in there. The landing is also pretty sketchy so I think I’m going to try to avoid landing switch.
Unfortunately that leaves me with one of the most stock double corks in the game, the dub cork 1080. I did two of them last night, with a high mute but tried to make them stick out and look a little different to everyone else’s double 1o. Mine is definitely on the flippy side which I think these judges like, so hopefully that plan works! They felt super solid so I am pretty stoked for todays competition. Other skiers that did a good job last night were Jon doing his trademark dub cork 10s truckdriver, Andreas going big as always, Bobby skiing without a helmet since he forgot it on the subway but still throwing down, Elias doing perfect 1080s, Russ throwing switch dub flat 9s, Oscar Harlaut doing double underflips, and far too many else to name. Oscar (Wester) did a good job too getting his double grabs out, cork 900 double blunt, with textbook T-Wall landings. It’s going to be an awesome comp today!
Here’s a few shots from out trip and from dinner, no shots from practice since I was too busy having fun
Oscar waiting for our train to Munich in Jenbach, Austria.
Riding the S-Bahn from Munich to the airport. Always fun to travel with two ski bags and four other bags, people look at you like youre an alien.
hey dude, the Situation called and he wants his jeans back.
London from the air. Beautiful weather for once!
The Harlauts after the practice session. Waiting for the bus to take us back to the hotel.
Oscar had a good practice and was stoked.
After practice, Monster invited their athletes and friends to come eat sushi at a nice little restaurang called Ukai sushi. I must say that sushi was a nice break from the food I’ve been eating in Austria the last few weeks. Sorry Austrians, but most of your villages got stuck somewhere in the 50s food-wise.
Shay Williams flew out to “report for Freeskier”. Yeah right, Shay. Fun seeing you though!
Culture experience #1. Henrik discovers edamame.
my agent Kristoffer aka ‘suit’ or ‘Ari’, norwegian snowboarder Silje Norendal and swedish snowboarder Kevin Bäckström all having a good time.
Sake goes in, mind goes out. thank god for no morning practice today.
Speaking of practice, it’s now 9.15 and I have a shuttle leaving at 9.40. Gonna go hit the jump a few times at 11.30, then it’s game on this afternoon!
Wish me luck!
Jacob
