the gunrackpack
Cruising through the internet this morning I came across this video of my friend Blayze Bramwell and his crew, ripping back home in Åre, Sweden.
“Kungen af Skutan”, or “king of the hill”, is a video contest where the contestants are encouraged to be as intoxicated as possible while completing a big list of goals, that they have to catch on tape. I think it’s safe to say that no matter how rowdy your party crew is, they aint got shit on the Gunrackpack.
Watch this as a reminder of how fun skiing and snowboarding can be and remember not to be too caught up in the neverending race for triple corks, x games golds and world rankings. Because unfortunately what usually goes hand in hand with the scene today is rivalry, restrictions and political correctness. These guys don’t know what either of those expressions means:
Jacob
VIDEO, random, skiing
The JOI jump is hilarious, but having just watched the Pekka H video on Jon’s blog I have mixed feelings about it. Funny but seriously stupid.
well spoken jacob!
btw, is that jon giving the boys shit? he should really learn to be chilled.
if you are organising an event you dont want somebody to die in front of the audience!
if someone dies in front of your audience its in no way your fault. no event organizer takes into consideration the possible event of a drunk naked skier overshooting his jump. go GRP!
Very mixed feelings about GRP, party animals and all out f****n mad, But fact still stands that they are nothing more than hillbillies!
of course you cannot imagine such things, but its understandable that Jon was not very happy about it
what ended up happing to guy that hit jon’s jump?
AWSM!
But yeah, the vid about Pekka I watched an hour ago made me ill when I saw the last part of this.
sorry, dennis but i think u dont get the point! its just all about not forgetting that skking is not ONLY triples and comps… skiing still also is friends and good times drunk on a hill. i love to see a person like jacob being out there and sharing a good laugh about some drunken boys in time of triples!
Hilarious! Jon wasn’t to happy though, but hopefully he lightened up about the whole thing. Kinda weirded me out that he said they couldn’t leave before they apologised, I mean is this 1st grade or what? And I don’t see how this relates to Pekka Hyysalo? By that logic no one should hit the jump, because they could end up in his situation. This is what an event like JOI needs, a bit of out of controlness amidst all the carefully planned things.
hahaha det siste minuttet er bare EPIC..
I think that this relates to Pekka in that I imagine his documentary will stress rationality in decision making as jumps are getting bigger and bigger (speculation). I don’t think it insulting to him though. I’m all for having drunken skiing fun, but there is a line where its not worth dying.
Thats really stupid
Dennis – I see your point, but let me explain it better. I’m all for progression, competitions and being the best skier you could possibly be, dont get me wrong here. the only sad part about it is that everyone feels the need to suddenly act so damn professional all the time. this is not a “sport” you can compare to fotball, or any other sport, its all a big show and we’re all circus clowns, so why take things so god damn seriously all the time?
and I also dont see how this relates to pekka at all, he went through a horrible injury, and he is one of the best kids I know. just because people get hurt we cant stop having fun out there.
people need to lighten up and realize its all about fun, and making fun of ourselves, other people, and in the end the entire industry.
thanks for the debate though, always a good time!
but then again wester, if it was all about fun, weren’t you supposed to go to Joi? wich in this case is a far better comp to have fun in than some stupied points?
Telus week in Whistler is pretty fun!
jb – yeah, spending 10 days sessioning pow jumps and slushy parks with your friends and flying helicopters isnt fun at all, youre right.
Some parts of this is hillarious, some just pure disgusting. Check some other vids from the anti comp here

Gotta love the commitment.
hehe.. Jacob 1, jb 0
Has anyone heard a comment from Jon on the naked guy?
Strange comments really. Ye you should remember to have fun etc, that you can do when you having a good time with your friends. But when you do something for living, jumping this is, you should act proffesional just like any other proffesion.
People saying jon should be chilled because he didnt like someone jumped his jump is also hilarious. You know this isnt a little jump behind someones house in the garden. This is a commercial event with lots of sponsors and responsibility from Are ski resort. If someone gets hurt it will look bad regardless who jumped it, something none of these actors want. Stop acting like 12 years old and understand alot of money is involved, and with that comes responsbility.
“this is not a “sport” you can compare to fotball, or any other sport, its all a big show and we’re all circus clowns, so why take things so god damn seriously all the time?”
No its not a big show, because first spot get more money then second place, and by that its a competition. First spot also means more status, and that itself will get your more popular for event invites but also sponsorship.
Marcus – Isn’t fun the most important thing? Isn’t that why this sport is so popular? It’s not about making money for most of the athletes, it’s about doing what they love to do for a living.
That someone sneaked in and jumped wasn’t a big surprise. People have been talking about doing that since JOI started. If you have to blame someone, blame Jon and his event-crew, they didn’t have the security that is needed for this kind of event.
To all the pros, that jump is FUN. Could you name one other sport that smoking marijuana is okey? That NO sponsor cares if smoke, drink, post decadent pictures of you. As long as you are a good athlete and know that you’re image is, they are fine with it.
Jons event is a commercial event, he makes money of it, not the athletes. That’s why he should be hold responsible for not having the security that such a big event obviously needed.
First, i’m not a hater, in my opinion you are the best skier out there witch the style that i think is amazing, but you did travel to us for the points not to have fun spending some days in the pow?
If you’re dumb enough to hit a 80ft plus jump naked and not know the speed, well then it’s nobody s fault but the dumb shit you overshot the jump. How can blame Jon for not having security?
I didnt mean to point out jon Im just saying if marcus thinks JOI is such a fancy event and that athletes should behave like serious athlets (read foot ballplayers) that maybe skistar and jons crew should take the responsibility think of the venue is like a football stadium and have the security it requires to have a sport where nothing like that ever happens, and if it do happen, security is there.
whose breasts are they?
But being serious only means it matters to you. Acting like the guys in the video only means the outcome, good or bad, does not matter to you. How is this “fun” and what does that word really mean? I know I would feel a lot better after practicing long hours and finally stomping an amazing triple then chucking myself off a jump half-aware of what is happening then eating shit and feeling pain.
DB I belive the keyword in your post is “I”. You’re giving your take on this, i’m giving mine. I think it was quite funny that he poached the jump, and i’m sure him and his mates did too (At least until he broke two rips, and Jon told him off)
And Marcus, that post was just horrendous. We have such opposing views of skiing that there is probably no point in us discussing it any further, but just remember that this “sport” was conceived in an attempt to rebel against the way of thinking that you use in your post.
this video fucking rules ahahahah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think the naked jump was hilarious, but you gotta se Jons point of view too. He is responsible for the event, and therefore the safety. He doesnt want people to get injured for perhaps at least two reasons. 1. he doesnt like to see people seriously injured. 2. he doesnt like people to get seriously injured at his event, an event he is responsible for. I dont think Vattenfall, Max and the other sponsors that make this terrific event, that pushes the sport and partying to the next level, happen, would come back next year if it gets associated with a naked, drunk guy braking his neck. My 5 cents.
JOI has developed into such a big event. Especially this year with the worlds best alpine skiers involved, as well as a nationall television appearence.
For as long as I have been into the freeskie-scene, people have always said that the sport is not getting the recognition it deserves.
A lot of people also complain about Jon, saying that he is the one who gets all the award and attention by organizing an event like JOI. But, what I don´t think you see in all this, taking a perspective on the rest of the community, is that the freeskiing get a lot of more publicity from the mainstream (at least in Sweden). And Jon has become the one representing the freeskiers to the community. Of course Jon can take personal advantage of all the publicity but it also favors freeskiing, and isn´t that what really matters to all of us?
All sports need a profile, someone that people can relate to. And Jon has become this profile in Sweden which in the full picture generates a lot to freeskiing itself. You can look at any sport, basketball-Michelle Jordan, Golf-Tiger Woods etc.
And you might say that you don´t share Jon´s opinions with triples etc. But all publicity is good publicity, right!
Involving the alpine scene in JOI makes the event even bigger in a international perspective, not to mention all the recognition the event gets (including freesking) from a different “world” which it hasn´t gotten in previous years. Alpine skiing is, as we know, a lot more popular in to mainstream than freeskiing and we could take that advantage to get more recognition and reach out to a different audience than our own.
To say the least ordinary people, at least in Sweden, have a lot of preconceptions about freeskiing and snowboarding just being a bunch of sad rebels messing around. And this video just confirms it. And if some of you think that is a good image to our sport, so be it.
Oh lord.. some people in here are just forgetting what Jacob is trying to say… KAS is a competition about letting all the serious go for a while and let´s all the competitors go back to the roots of our sport.
Jon is a front for our sport here in Sweden but I think that he likes his brand a bit much. So that somebody snakes his kicker is not a surprise. Let´s see it from the good side – if all competitions are invitationals – then it´s just the pros that are gonna ride for themselves… kind of an internal sport isn´t it? I know that Jon props for the kids – as he says -and that video quals are open… but just tell me one thing… how many of the kids that just loves the sport has the money to put in for a month in Breck, so they can put in those dubs to qualify?
I could go on but hey, you get my point. KAS is just a fun thing that gathers up your friends to go nuts on a mountain. Regardless of how good you are. Let that be the progression for a while. Trips quads and all other shit that comes along in the future has nothing to put up agains friends skiing or boarding for the fun of it!
Don´t hate on all, just love our sport… that´s how you get your mojo on out in the slopes.
Och ja just ja, Jacob – riktigt skönt att du propsa för grp!
You do not need a heavy budget to be able to qualify. Take Christopher Hjälmeby for example, is he even sponsored?!
And I do definetly dissagre with you when you say that; “…he likes his brand a bit much”. Well mayby he is a little to buisnesslike/glamour to fit in with all the gangsters out their but in my opinion that doesn´t matter. As long as the spotlight is pointing towards Jon, freeskiing itself gets more publicity. It is a winwin situation!
And freeskiing and snowboard haven´t received the reputation they have to no reason, this video is just one among an endless pile with the same crap. Take the Chuglife videoblogg for example. Do you really think that this kind of “rolemodels” is great ambasssadors for freeskiing?!
And don´t get me wrong. I am all about style and having fun while skiing, making edits thats entertaning. I just don´t get all this talk about partying, how is it even related to having fun while skiing. You do no drink and drive right!? Same thing with skiing!
Jon pressed charges against the dude and thats fucked up!!! Skiing as we know it is born out of this kind of rebelious behaviour. We need more of it and we certanly dont need wankers that forgot where they come from pressing charges on a guy for hittin a jump, naked or not!!! Wish Jon could get his head out of his tight ass and remeber the roots of the sport that paid for his lambo!!!
If what Holy Diver says is true, then thats fucked up. Jon needs to go and take a serious look in the mirror.
And to that Marcus dude, talk about a boring and conservative guy. Who are you to define that pro freeskiers have to behave just like any pro atlethe? Is it just the law? Get out of your tiny little square!!!
Holy diver – I don’t think “skiing as we know it” came from this kind of “rebellious behavior” but from guys like Jon – he is a major root of the sport, not this shit. So get your head out of your tight ass and try having a little more gratitude.
Hol y diver is soo talkin shit right now, Jon didnot press charges against him, So shut the fuck up
Holy diver–> haha, good one
Sweden is not america you know. We do not put up charges against one another that easy.
I am swedish and I know that Jon made a “polisanmälan” against the dude. And of course Jon has played an important role in forming the “new school skiing” but it sure as hell didnt start with sportcars, triples and burgershack sponsordeals. It started with “trespassing snowboardparks”, homemade twintips and a fuck off mentality towards the established skibuisness. Jon among other legends was a part of that and he has earned his coins by years of hard work and he deserves all the best for being hugely talented and truly devoted to whatever he puts his mind to. But when it comes down to it the naked dude is not that diffrent to Jon, or any of the other legends that changed skiing forever, when they were younger; He is just a young dude who wants to shred and show the established skibuisness the finger, or in his case the full monty… And that should not be forgotten, charges pressed or not!!!
I don’t think that this was an attempt to show the “established skibuisness the finger.” If so then it even worse. The ski businesses in this case are the ones that make the jump and event possible. But my guess is this guy was drunk and barely even thought about it and just did it randomly on a whim.
Shit my god what a bunch of stupid comments..
Can all you “Jon-haters” take a second to put yourself in his shoes..? If you spend about 70% of your time in a year to organize an event like this (wich is really good for the future of this sport and for young kids to get in the scene and maybe get (more)sponsors so they can hang 4 weeks in Breck practicing doubles) do tou think you would be totally cool and relaxed if a kid brakes his neck o something in a jump YOU build for an event YOU put andless time in..?? I dont think so! But if you still would have done all that and made your event and then laught at this then I really hope you dont get to do it!
Sad to see that Jacob wasn’t in the comp but hey, if I could choose I’d relax 10 days playing around with my friends rather then risk my life doing triples!
Kör hårt Jacob, du har sjukt skön stil!
/Laidback Jimmy who likes both serious Jon and chillin Jacob!
