Well, it’s saturday morning and I guess it’s time to update the blog with what happened yesterday. I got up at 6.00 in the morning to head up to the slopestyle course in Breckenridge for semi finals at the Dew Tour. I didnt have very high hopes due to a sore knee that’s been bothering me the last few days, so the goal was simply to put down a solid run that would guarantee me a spot in the rest of the tour. However, as I started practice my skiing felt better than it has in a long time and my body was not hurting at all. The weather was absolutely perfect and we had plenty of practice, where I managed to put down my competition run flawlessly. My run looked like this:
270 on/270 off on the down rail
switch 450 on the down box
left 900 nose mute
switch dub 900 safety
frontside 630 of the up rail
switch dspin 900 true tail
dub 1260 nosemute
In my first run I got my rail tricks and my left 9 down perfectly, before getting my ski stuck in the rut on the takeoff on the second jump, forcing me to grab on to my knees to even bring my sw dub 900 around. This resulted in me washing out and not getting enough speed for the up rail. Oh well, I thought, there’s always a second run. I tried to forget about my first run and told myself to go back up there and pretend like nothing happened, I had this. Dropping in on my second run I felt great on the rails once more, and as soon as I was going into the first jump I felt the wind picking up. Looking at the flags on the takeoff, I realized a strong headwind had suddenly appeared and I didnt have nearly enough speed. I tried to wrap around my left 900 but landed just short of the sweetspot and washed out. That sinking feeling of failure went through my body and I thought to myself “well, that was that”.
So frustrating not getting to show what I had on the bottom two jumps but this is a common pattern for me in the early season. I ski well, but very inconsistent, mainly from doing almost all of my skiing on either city big airs or on icy pre season jumps/rails. I really wish the contests didnt start until january.
The people who did make it to finals, where they will be joined by Bobby, Russ and Schlopy, were:
1) Tom Wallisch – 92.50
2) Andreas Hatveit – 90.67
3) Gus Kenworthy – 88.33
4) Nick Goepper – 87.50
5) Jamieson Irvine – 86.83
6) Chris Logan – 85.67
7) Alexis Godbout – 85.17
PK Hunder – 84.83
9) Joss Christensen – 83.83
Now I’m going to try to forget about this weekend and head out in the park just to have FUN. The best part is that filming season is getting close, and as soon as the X Games are over I am going to film full time with MSP, trying to make the best movie segment I can possibly put together. Get ready for big things!
