For those of you who missed it, Winter Project’s 2010/2011 movie Anima is now available for free viewing online. 30 minutes of Swedish skiing and snowboarding captured beautifully through the eyes of Adam Falk and Nicke Jacobsson. I was hanging out with them for a few days in Stockholm and managed to sneak in 2 shots in the beginning of the movie. Enjoy:

Xmas + Åre photo post

Welcome back to the blog, after a well deserved rest for a few days. After christmas I decided to chill out for a week and followed my father and brother up to Åre in the north of Sweden, to hang out in general, and to do a Swedish freestyle team gathering. The team isn’t fully formed yet so it’s still just a bunch of people getting together for some skiing and chilling. Good vibes for sure, and we have one more day up here before heading back down to Stockholm tomorrow night. Here’s an avalanche of photos from the last 5 days, enjoy!

Xmas in Sweden is much like Xmas anywhere else. Get together with the fam, dress a pinetree, and eat a ton of tasty food.

Xmas eve self portraits

after Xmas we got in the car and drove the 8 hours north up to Åre, where we:

…went skiing every day

…ate delicious breakfasts at Åre bakery

…bowled

…played dart

…and had a great time in general! Soon there will be edits online from the camp since we’ve had filmers here to document what’s been going on. Unfortunately Åre doesnt have much snow so the parks are not finished yet except for a rail line, not my strongest side :) Just having a good time skiing though, although playing S.K.A.T.E with e’dollo and simon ericson isnt the easiest task :)

check back soon!

Xmas surf!

Headed town to Torö south of Stockholm today to see if the winds on the Baltic sea had managed to scrape some waves together. Definitely an iffy forecast and not one I would typically go on, but it’s going to be a long winter and any surf I can get is better than nothing. Surprisingly, there were some good ones out there! 5°C in the air, 5°C in the water, and not a soul out… (oh, and freezing rain and 20 knot winds, props to Sofia for shooting)

After 2 hours in the rain Sofia got enough and so did my arms after battling the strong current. Time to head home and prepare for Xmas tomorrow…(or the day after if you’re english or american).

BTW, thanks so much for all the props on my MSP re-edit! Makes me even more stoked to get back out there and beat it this year. It’s going to be a good winter!

MSP re-edit

And here it is, all of my footage from last year re-edited by the folks at Matchstick Productions; and I know the song is over-used, however when we picked it out, none of us knew the same song was being used in 3 other movies this year. Oh well, enjoy the clip:

Can’t wait to get back into the mountains this year!

almost home

no sleep for 24 hours is the secret to a healthy moustache

Just landed in Amsterdam after a 1-stop flight from Denver through Houston. Never got tired so spent the long flight watching 4 movies, Contagion, District 9, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, and Sophie Scholl: the Final Days. I can recommend them all, it’s been a while since I saw some decent movies.

Just one more flight then some holiday time with the family and Sofia, can’t wait. Hopefully Stockholm gets some more snow so I can go play on some handrails…

Stay tuned

Dew tour over (for me)

Well, it’s saturday morning and I guess it’s time to update the blog with what happened yesterday. I got up at 6.00 in the morning to head up to the slopestyle course in Breckenridge for semi finals at the Dew Tour. I didnt have very high hopes due to a sore knee that’s been bothering me the last few days, so the goal was simply to put down a solid run that would guarantee me a spot in the rest of the tour. However, as I started practice my skiing felt better than it has in a long time and my body was not hurting at all. The weather was absolutely perfect and we had plenty of practice, where I managed to put down my competition run flawlessly. My run looked like this:

270 on/270 off on the down rail

switch 450 on the down box

left 900 nose mute

switch dub 900 safety

frontside 630 of the up rail

switch dspin 900 true tail

dub 1260 nosemute

In my first run I got my rail tricks and my left 9 down perfectly, before getting my ski stuck in the rut on the takeoff on the second jump, forcing me to grab on to my knees to even bring my sw dub 900 around. This resulted in me washing out and not getting enough speed for the up rail. Oh well, I thought, there’s always a second run. I tried to forget about my first run and told myself to go back up there and pretend like nothing happened, I had this. Dropping in on my second run I felt great on the rails once more, and as soon as I was going into the first jump I felt the wind picking up. Looking at the flags on the takeoff, I realized a strong headwind had suddenly appeared and I didnt have nearly enough speed. I tried to wrap around my left 900 but landed just short of the sweetspot and washed out. That sinking feeling of failure went through my body and I thought to myself “well, that was that”.

So frustrating not getting to show what I had on the bottom two jumps but this is a common pattern for me in the early season. I ski well, but very inconsistent, mainly from doing almost all of my skiing on either city big airs or on icy pre season jumps/rails. I really wish the contests didnt start until january.

The people who did make it to finals, where they will be joined by Bobby, Russ and Schlopy, were:
1) Tom Wallisch – 92.50
2) Andreas Hatveit – 90.67
3) Gus Kenworthy – 88.33
4) Nick Goepper – 87.50
5) Jamieson Irvine – 86.83
6) Chris Logan – 85.67
7) Alexis Godbout – 85.17
8) PK Hunder – 84.83
9) Joss Christensen – 83.83

Now I’m going to try to forget about this weekend and head out in the park just to have FUN. The best part is that filming season is getting close, and as soon as the X Games are over I am going to film full time with MSP, trying to make the best movie segment I can possibly put together. Get ready for big things!

Check out the latest ARcast to see what I was up to last week!

Had a good day in a snowy Breckenridge watching the dew tour open qualifiers today. Tough conditions for the athletes but everyone killed it, congrats to everyone making it to semis!

Dew tour practice day #1

Just got back from 5 hours of skiing the dew tour slopestyle course here in Breckenridge, really sore but had a lot of fun. The course is really well built, so it’s going to be interesting to see what kind of madness will go down… Did mostly mellower tricks today just trying to get used to the speed and the rails but I think I’m going to have a pretty decent run on friday. We’ll see!

At the end of the day I followcamed Banks Gilberti with my G10, this year the dew tour has banned any kind of filming on the course, so dont tell anyone…;)

Check back soon!

Spashion

As you all know I went to London for a day in november to do some modeling for UK sports/fashion webmag spashion.com, here’s the result.

Had two good days in Breckenridge CO so far, sessioning the small jumps and rails, working on some different rotations. Keystone’s big line just opened but I figured I need to get the basics down before going crazy on big jumps. The Dew tour course looks absolutely amazing however, and practice starts tomorrow. Shit’s going to be wiiild!

Here’s a photo of Armada team manager Josh Bishop throwing down in Breck:

you’d have a hard time finding a team manager doing zero spins like these.

Check back soon for more ski or non ski related stuff!
