Heli day!

So today we finally got some work done out there! Yesterday we headed up with the helicopter at 11am only to discover all the fresh snow we had gotten was super sketchy and would slide everywhere, natural avalanches triggered around us and we quickly decided it wasnt worth the risk. Today we headed up to the same zone and the snow had settle enough to finally shoot! Skied with Ingrid Backstrom and we quickly got a few shots, before the clouds filled in in the afternoon. It was so good to just get a few shots in the bag right away though, now I definitely feel like my filming season has started for real. Here’s a few iphone samples:

Deep days

Woke up this morning to 15 cms of fresh, and by the time I made it back home there was probably 35 on the ground. Skied Blackcomb today with a good crew of swedish rippers, and got some deep, deep turns. I can’t wait to see what this dump did to the mountains in the area. Hopefully there will be some sun this weekend (looks like it), so we can get in the bird and go poke around.

5 hours of non stop pow playing later, and I am parked in the couch for a while. Pretty much my whole body hurts right now, in the best possible way! Going to go for a shower then head out to Sushi Village, also known as the best sushi in Canada, to celebrate MSP filmer’s Nate Nash’s birthday! Should be a fun time, stay tuned for more skiing soon!

Waiting for better times

Blackcomb yesterday, skied a lot of the stuff on the upper right, as well as a few hikes up Spanky’s ladder for those of you that know the area. Still good snow to be had inbounds.

Being on a spontaneous film trip means at least 99% of the time youre going to be doing something else than filming. Whistler isnt blessing us with the most perfect weather right now, and even if it looks sunny in this photo it’s still not consistent enough to get in a 2000 dollar a day heli and hope for blue patches. Im not complaining though, getting to ski around Whistler Blackcomb with good friends is definitely not a bad situation, even if it’s frustrating when you feel you aren’t accomplishing much. I know that’s the wrong way to think about it, every second on the mountain means more experience and strength. Now it looks as though the weather is taking a sunny turn sometime this weekend so that means we’re on! Hold your thumbs!

humans are super heroes

This video makes me want to start basejumping. How do you start, are there beginner courses? :)

In other news, nothing is new really. Been skiing Whistler Blackcomb with friends, which has been really good. Normally I go straight from competition season into filming and the first few days are usually a shitshow of me not being used to BC. This way I get to ski around the mountain hitting cliffs and natural features, getting used to new skis, new boots, and new thinking before getting in an expensive helicopter. When it’s game on, I’ll be ready to go. Hopefully we’ll get a crack in the cloud cover sometime this week. Would be nice to start stacking shots!

Whistler pow!

Didnt blog yesterday due to severe jetlag and general laziness.

But, Im back! Just got home from the hill after an epic day of skiing Whistler Blackcomb, in my opinion the best ski resort in the world. If you havent been here yet, go. Right now.

When I arrived I had these two beauties waiting for me, the Armada Bubba’s and the AKJJs. Super stoked to be on some real skis!

Holiday lift lines in Whistler are insane. President’s weekend + Saturday + 22 cm of fresh pow = not the best combo.

solid 30 minutes lift line right there.

this was me when I saw the line.

but then I was like “screw it, lets get some faceshots”

Ran into some childhood friends from Sweden, Alexandra and Jenny.

best. skis. ever.

pow for days, although by 3pm it was pretty tracked out. hopefully it’ll start dumping again soon so we can get in the heli with the MSP folks!

Alright, time to lean back on the couch and stretch/ice my tender body. Definitely feeling it after not really getting to ski any full laps this year, just park basically. Exhausted!

Check back soon

Lahndon

flying in over my first stop on my journey to Canada, the beautiful (depending on the weather) city of London.

Enjoying a coffee and a snack waiting for my flight to Vancouver this afternoon. Can’t wait to get to Whistler and enjoy some time with good friends and epic skiing. Looks like conditions are so-so at the moment but storms are coming. I haven’t set my return flight yet so I have plenty of time to ski…

Stay tuned folks!

game plan

So I bet some of you are wondering what’s going on – here’s a tip, check out my twitter as that’s where most of the action is happening nowadays. I will keep blogging but with less dedication as I have realized I work harder when I blog less, since I don’t bring a camera to the hill and spend too much time focusing on other things than skiing.

So what’s new: Well, I finally worked out a plan with Matchstick Productions and I will be shooting with them the rest of the season with the goal of producing a banger segment this year. As this plan finalized over the last few days I decided to fly home from breckenridge for a week to get some time in with Sofia and to start preparing for some serious powder missions. In a week from now I am flying back over the pond to spend about a month in Whistler with the MSP crew and a heli on hold. Pretty sick opportunity and I’m about to make the best of it for sure.

Since Stockholm has gotten a bunch of fresh snow over the last weeks I wouldnt completely rule out the chance of some urban rails being hit, either…

view from my breakfast table

Well, so now you know my plans kinda, we’ll see how much I feel like updating from home, right now I’m mostly excited to see Sofia and to enjoy “normal” life for a few days, before I disappear to Canada…

Check back soon!

snowmass

So sunday we went out to snowmass and got to session this beauty for a couple hours before we were done and I headed back to Breckenridge, which is my current location. Pretty sweet setup…:

before sessioning for 3 hours with Torin and Gus. and a heli…

So now I’m back in breck, it’s 8.19am and it’s sunny out so I think it’s time to go ski freeway and get some more shots with Pat, looks like a fun day in the making!
