Jag skrev och frågade flygplatspolisen i Zurich om varför min patron blev konfiskerad och fick detta svar: "We refer to your e-mail message below. Security Control at Zurich Airport is being performed by airport police - security control branch on behalf of Zurich Airport AG and in pursuance of the rules set by the Swiss Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA). Please be informed that the air cartridge was removed in compliance with the IATA regulation regarding passenger baggage (Table 2.3.A). “Avalanche rescue backpack: one (1) per person, equipped with a pyrotechnic trigger mechanism containing less than 200 mg net of Div. 4.4S and less than 250 ml of compressed gas in Div. 2.2. The backpack must be packed in such a manner that it cannot be accidentally activated. The airbags within the backpacks must be fitted with pressure relief valves." The approval of the operator (airline) is required: YES Above rule states firstly, that an avalanche backpack is allowed and secondly, it can contain an air cartridge (max. 250 ml)as long as it is placed within the avalanche backpack. But it does not allow the transport of air cartridges itself. According to the IATA you are allowed to carry 4 compressed gas cylinders in your baggage without special boxing that contain max. 50 ml gas. The gas cylinder removed was larger than 50 ml. Since the air cartridge was not within the backpack, which is an absolute must, it had to be removed from your baggage. Such cylinders must be placed in the designated location within the backpack otherwise it cannot be transported as passenger baggage. Cylinders larger than 50 ml packed in other bags are not accepted in passenger baggage. Please take into consideration that we cannot comment on security measurements regarding airports outside of Switzerland. Once an item is being removed from the baggage it is being transferred to the airport operator, Zurich Airport AG. That's the reason as to why the receipt is being issued by Zurich Airport AG. The item is being stored for 4 weeks at the airport service centre (15.- CHF fee) in case you organize a pick-up. Home delivery organized by security control via mail / air fright is not available. " Så där har vi det: "Since the air cartridge was not within the backpack, which is an absolute must, it had to be removed from your baggage". Klart slut.
