The valley elevations are rather high up but the number of storm cycles to pass through until that time could be tricky if you are looking for a solid base without too many rocks ready to bite you. If Italy, I would choose a place high up like Arabba. Great little town with all you need and access to two mountains, the Sella Ronda but also the Porta Vescova which takes you up towards the Marmolada. By the way, some great guiding can be found through altabadiaguides.com if you are looking to explore a bit beyond the ski area. I did a tour with them last year and it was phenomenal.cheers!</blockquote>
