Base dowtown rail jam results
Huge crowds turned up last Friday for the Wanaka downtown action of the NZ Freeski open where both skiers and boarders competed for cash prizes in the BASE Down Town Rail Jam.
The event which was held with the help of the Snow Park NZ crew, the Bullock Bar, Nitro and Rossignol saw over 2000 people packed out the Bullock Bar car park last Friday night to watch New Zealand and international skiers and boarders compete for a prize poll of over $2000. Base Marketing Coordinator Aimee Paardekooper said they were ecstatic with the numbers of competitors which were over double on last year with the judges having to restrict the numbers to the 75 pre-registered. This year also so the inclusion of a live band, The Dukes on a stage which was position right behind the ¼ pipes at the end of the run out from the straight-down BASE Rail.
Results: Ski Open Men's: Russell Hendhaw (Aust); 2nd Adam Falk (Sweden); 3rd Oscar Harlaut (Sweden) Ski Open Women: 1st Keri Herman (USA). Ski Jnr Men's: Cal Runnurstrum (NZ); 2nd Hamish McDongall (NZ); 3rd Beau-James Wells (NZ). Snowboard Open Men's: 1st Wes Walsh (USA): 2nd Nic Heringa (Canada); 3rd Kotaro Kamimura (Japan). Snowboard Open Women's: 1st Yuka Fujimori (Japan); 2nd Rebecca Torr (NZ); 3rd Rachel Johnson (Canada).
The Volkl New Zealand Free Ski Open competition moves to Snow Park NZ for the New Zealand Community Trust Halfpipe on Tuesday 28 August and the Red Bull Slopestyle on Wednesday 29 August.
