A freeride/touring trip in INDIA, interested?

Hi Felix, I spoke to Rikard about Iran and he mentioned the ski possibilities in India. Are you up to date on the status on the new lift? How supposingly will it be ready for this season? Is it a "maybe" or a "very possibly"?
What are the prices on flights Stockholm-Dehli?

Priserna på flyg Sthlm-Delhi varier mycket. Generellt kan man säga att ju tidigare man bokar, desto större chans till att få en billig biljett. Många flygbolag flyger dit men inget direktflyg finns vad jag vet. Förra året flög jag med British Airways via London till Sthlm-Dehli och sedan hem från Calcutta 3 månader senare för ca 7500 kr. Men ditresan var i december så den blev nog dyrare pga närheten till jul. Har kollar runt lite lätt och en tripp i mars t o r kan man nog få för ca 6000 kr med europeiskt bolag via någon stad i europa, eller någon tusenlapp billigare med Aeroflot via Moskva.

Inrikes i Indien är det Indian Airlines som oftast gäller. De trafikerar sträckan Delhi-Srinagar minst en gång per dag. Även det andra bolaget i Indien, jet Airways, kör sträckan en eller ett par gånger per vecka. På alla inrikesflyg i Indien får man 25% rabatt om man är under 30 år. Man måste dock ofta själv påpeka detta vid bokning men det ska sedan inte vara något problem.

Gulmarg och Srinagar ligger alltså i Kashmir, nära gränsen till Pakistan. Manali ligger i delstaten Himachal Pradesh söder om Kashmir. Auli ligger i delstaten Uttaranchal mellan Himachal Pradesh och Nepal. Samtlia tre delstater gränsar i nordöst till Tibet/Kina.

So Jet is cheaper then IA? Mostly they have exactly the same prices on domestic flights. IA usually have much more flights on a route but Jet seems to have much better service. As everyone who ever have been flying with IA knows - IA deserve their reputation of having one the worst service of all airlines in the world. My advice is - go with Jet Airways whenever possible

Hmm ... Have found tickets with BA on Arlanda-Dehli for 4300 kr ... maybe to go after all

Where did you found that? 4300 + taxes I guess? Very good price anyway. The best I found so far is around 6500 + taxes with Austrian Airlines.
Only one bad thing about BA - you fly via Heathrow, wich not exactly is the closest way to fly. Last time I flew Sthlm-Delhi was with BA via Heathrow and one of the bags got lost... BA also have really bad service on their long distance flights. Bring plenty of sandwiches, your not gonna be fed up with their food... To bad Thai Airways or Singapore Airlines does not fly the route

raskalnikov>> det är mycket man inte vet.. Men Indien har ett gäng höga berg. Världens tredje högsta, Kanchenjunga på 8598 möh, ligger i nordöstra Indien på gränsen mellan Nepal och Indien (längs Nepals östra gräns) och toppen råkar ligga i Indien. Egentligen i det lilla buddhistiska kungariket Sikkim inklämt mellan Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan och Indien, vars befolkning till största delen har tibetanska och nepalesiska rötter vad gäller kultur, språk och religion. Men sedan 1975 är Sikkim en indisk delstat, tillika ett av de bästa ställen på jorden jag varit på.

Men det är ju inte till Sikkim som Felix skidtripp skulle gått utan till Kashmir i första hand. Även Himachal Pradesh och Uttaranchal har skidåkning. Samtliga dessa tre delstater ligger i nordvästra Indien och har en jäkla massa rejäla berg de också. Liksom Pakistan. Så det är inte bara Nepal som är begåvat med 8000-toppar.
