Park City, Utah to Sweden...Need help!
Hello! I am a very passionate skier coming from the ski resort in the U.S. Park City. I am currently studying in Karlstad until January. I don't know very much about the skiing over here, but would appreciate advice on what Mountains to go to, best prices, what time they open. I am an advance skier who does a variety of terrain!

Any suggestions would help. I also don't have any of my gear with me.

Are there female rider competitions. such as big mountain, rail jams, ect.?

Need skier friends...

Thanks

in my opinion Åre is the place to be...but its a 6h drive from Karlstad, they have a good park, good terrain and a lot of comps throughout the season! Sälen is good too and only 2-3hours away, not the same terrain but the park is good and they also got a lot of comps throughout the season! Im from Örebro, 1 hour from karlstad and will be moving to Åre 1 november, hope too see you there!

Hey!

I´m actually originally from Karlstad as well, and there aren\'t sadly that many good places close by. If your looking for a one day trip I would recommend Branäs up north in the province. It´s about 2 hour of driving, and there should be shuttles taking you there in the season. They are preliminary open from dec 23, but have a look on their homepage for updates (it´s not in english, so hook up a swede for translation) They offers rentals as well.

If you looking for a thursday-sunday or maybe a week-long trip, I would recommend Åre, witch is the biggest resort in Sweden. They are actually offering student weeks, beginning in week 3 or something, with very affordable ticket/accommodation prices. Here is the website. You will have to get yourself to Stockholm and transfer to a bus or train to go to Åre, there is no other connections with Karlstad.
Åre offers about everything you need on a ski resort - good skiing (groomers, offpist, park), bars/nightclubs, restaurants, aquatic centre etc. etc.
Read more about Åre on it's website

Sälen is also an option for you, the resort (or resorts, actually) is very popular in your area, and the connections are way better than Karlstad-Åre. You are looking at about 6hr busdrive from Karlstad-Sälen, compared to about 12hr when choosing Åre. You are though loosing vertical feet, big times, but if your main preference is the park you should probably consider Sälen.
Read more on their website.

Hope that this helped a bit, if you got any more questions, don't hesitate to ask!

/Oscar

edit. AFTERBANG pretty much said it all, briefly. But whatever :)

1 + for Åre and Branäs

If you just want a great park go to Kungsberget a.k.a Kingsmountain, small mountain big park Kungsberget

And now when you actually gone all the way from Utah to Sweden, you really need to go to Riksgränsen far up north.
Riksgränsen one of the most beautiful places in the spring, great for heliriding. Unfortunately not that high mountains. (which none except Åre is in Sweden..)

Thank you all for the replies!! They are all so helpful and look forward to researching a little more into the resorts. If anyone is close to Karlstad or headed to these areas in the next couple of months, would appreciate a message, maybe we can meet up...carpool!!

Not to mention you would have a great connection to Park City, Alta, Snowbird..ect.

Let me know!
